<Ingress title="Activating an order">
  Activate an order when the goods are ready to ship. Activation tells Walley that the customer will receive the goods, moves the order out of <code>NotActivated</code>, and includes the amount in your next payout.
</Ingress>

## Before you start

The order must have status `NotActivated` or `PartActivated`. See [order statuses](/docs/merchanthub/faq#what-are-the-different-order-statuses).

## Activate an order

1. Find the order in the [order search](/docs/merchanthub/search) and open it.
2. Select **Activate**.
3. In the dialog, tick the articles to activate. If an article has a quantity above one, you can activate part of the quantity.
4. Select **Activate**.

The order status changes to `Activated`, or to `PartActivated` if you left some articles out.

## Part activation

If you activate only some of the articles, the order becomes `PartActivated` and you can activate the rest later. This is useful when some items are on back order and ship at a later date.

For invoice orders, Walley sends the customer a [notification](/docs/merchanthub/faq#what-is-a-notification) every time you activate.

## Next steps

- [Edit or add articles](/docs/merchanthub/orders/adjustments) before or after activation.
- [Return articles](/docs/merchanthub/orders/returns) the customer sends back.
