<Ingress title="How settlements work">
You receive settlements according to your agreement with Walley.
</Ingress>

## Frequency

Available settlement frequency options are:

- `Daily (business days)`
- `Weekly`
- `Monthly`

## How it works in practice

### Activation

An invoice can be fully or partly activated, depending on whether you deliver the complete order or not. Activation is what the Management API calls [capture](/docs/manage/orders/capture). The settled amount equals the total amount of the activated order rows.

All activations are specified in the settlement files.

### Returns

An invoice can be fully or partially returned. The returned amount is deducted from the next settlement amount (activations minus returns).

All returns are specified in the settlement files.

### Fees

Depending on your agreement, fees are either deducted from the payout to the specified bank account or invoiced separately each month. The CSV settlement file always contains the full order amount, so the settlement sum corresponds to the amount in your ERP system. Whether the fees are shown in the CSV file depends on which file type specification is agreed and used (see [Report file type specification](#report-file-type-specification) below).

## Report retrieval

There are two ways of getting the settlement files:

1. Download settlement data via the [Reports API](/docs/reports/endpoints). Access to the API is set up through the Merchant Hub; see [Authentication](/docs/reports/authentication) for how to get started.

2. Download the settlement files from the Merchant Hub. Log in, open **Reports** in the navigation menu, and filter the reports by date period, payout date, currency, reference, and store. You need the Read permission for `Report Management` to see the page, and the Write permission to download the settlement files. Contact Merchant Services for access to the Merchant Hub.

### Report file naming

The CSV file name has the following format:

```text
{Companyname}_{CountryCode}_{FromDate}-{ToDate}_settlement_{SettlementId}.csv
```

For example:
`TestPartner 3.0_SE_170814-170815_settlement_48094.csv`

This settlement contains data for the merchant "TestPartner 3.0" in Sweden, from the 14th and 15th of August 2017.

### Report file type specification

See [Settlement types](/docs/reports/settlements-api/settlement-types) for details of the type specifications.

Each settlement consists of two file types: one PDF and one or more CSV files. The PDF file aggregates all transactions and fees (if any), giving you an overview of the transactions for the settlement period as a specification of transaction types with an aggregated count to present the end balance. The CSV file contains information about each transaction. Walley offers two ways of generating the CSV file; see the examples below.

#### CSV Regular

The regular CSV file is the standard option. It lists transactions (Purchases, Returns, Adjustments, and so on), but no Walley fees or commission.

File type example:

<a href="/settlements/testpartner-3.0_se_141014-141015_settlement_48094.csv" target="_blank">Example of CSV file with all transactions for the period</a>

#### CSV Extended

The extended CSV file can be used instead of the regular type. It lists transactions (Purchases, Returns, Adjustments, and so on) and all Walley fees, if your agreement deducts fees on settlement.

All fees are listed directly under each transaction.

#### PDF file

Each settlement generates a PDF file that aggregates all transactions and fees (if any), giving you an overview of the transactions for the settlement period.
